Frequently Asked Questions

What does Vulcan Tool mean by commercially burr-free?

  • Commercially burr-free means that parts cut and/or trimmed by Vulcan’s machines will have no hanging or measurable burr and will always be cut clean.

How does the Brehm Shimmy Die work?

  • The cutting method is a supported shear cut that works based on CAM movements. Shimmy Dies are placed in presses and can have various tooling put in to trim parts for different applications.

Can I run a Shimmy Die on a press with a leaky air cushion?

  • We offer a built-in nitrogen pack addition that replaces the use of the air cushion on the press. We highly recommend using a nitrogen pack over a leaky air cushion.

How far along in the draw process do I need to be before having tooling made?

  • Exceptions can be made based on time restraints, but it is important to send us the final draw to get the best cut possible. We fit the provided parts as closely as we can; therefore, if the draw changes even slightly, it can reduce the quality of the cut.

What are the benefits of a Shimmy Trim over a Pinch Trim?

    1. 1. Shimmy Trim controls flatness.  In addition, notches and tabs can be incorporated into the trim function.
      2. Shimmy Trim results in burr free parts.  This eliminates the need for secondary de-burring operations.
      3. Shimmy Trim is more precise. With consistent parts tolerances can be held as close as .001″.

Can the Shimmy Die handle different shapes and sizes for deep drawn parts?

  • Yes, the Shimmy Die is customizable for different shapes and sizes. Vulcan Tool Company can create tailor-made dies to meet specific deep drawing requirements, allowing for versatility in component production.

How do I go about getting repairs for a machine?

  • Contact [email protected] for a quote on replacement parts or machine rebuilds. Technicians can also be sent on site to evaluate or repair any Vulcan machine.

What materials can Vulcan Tube Cutters be used with?

  • Vulcan Tube Cutters can be used with mild steel, stainless steel, brass, copper, gold, and aluminum.

What tube shapes can Vulcan Tube Cutters cut?
