Long story short

Vulcan Tool around 1950's

Vulcan Tool Company, founded in 1916 in Dayton, Ohio, began as a small tool and die shop. From its inception, the company prioritized high-quality craftsmanship, laying the groundwork for a legacy of innovation and excellence.

During World War II, Vulcan Tool played a pivotal role in supporting the war effort, joining many other Dayton-based companies. However, rather than producing guns, bullets, tanks, or airplanes, Vulcan focused on manufacturing machines critical to the production of essential military equipment. This period of growth significantly enhanced the company’s capabilities and underscored its resilience during challenging times.

In late 1945, the company expanded by acquiring the Dayton Tool and Engineering Company, along with the facility that remains the Vulcan Tool Building today. A few years later, it licensed the Shimmy Die and Brehm Tube machine from the Steel Products Engineering Company in Springfield. Eventually, Vulcan Tool purchased SPECO’s Brehm Division. Designed over a century ago by Charles M. Brehm, the Brehm Shimmy Die has become a cornerstone of Vulcan Tool Company’s product line. Vulcan’s chipless tube-cutting machines, which utilize a variation of the Shimmy Die’s supported shear design, have continued to deliver value. As highlighted in a 1925 American Machinist advertisement as an “invaluable time and money saver,” the Shimmy Die remains a crucial component of Vulcan’s offerings, helping customers maintain competitiveness even today.

In 2020, a new chapter began when Paradigm Industrial acquired Vulcan Tool Company. Despite the ownership change, Vulcan continues to operate in Dayton, Ohio, solidifying its status as one of the longest continuously running manufacturing operations in the region.

As a founding member of what is now the Dayton Regional Manufacturing Association, Vulcan Tool Company helped shape the organization alongside Dayton Tool and Engineering Company and Steel Products Engineering Company.

Recognized as a Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business (SDVOSB), Vulcan Tool actively supports Veteran employment initiatives. Additionally, the company’s Quality Management System adheres to ISO 9001:2015 standards, and it holds both ITAR and JCP certifications.
